Another dance form especial to the Muslim community of Kerala is Aravanmuttu (also called Arbanamuttu), the origin of which can be traced back to the Arabs. It is still accompanied by Arabic music. Aravanmuttu is also called Duffmuttu. The name is attributed to the use of an instrument called duff or tap. Daff is a round percussion instrument with one side covered with hide and is used to produce rhythm. |
